Have current collaborations with local, national, or global health institutions to improve health and well-being outcomes.
As an integral component of the university’s dedication to fostering sustainability, independence, and prosperity, several faculties actively contribute to the community’s health through collaborative efforts with diverse local and global partners. In adhering these programs, UGM follows its principles of local wisdom, ethics, and professionalism. For example:

UGM partners with various health institutions through activities such as online capacity programs, student and staff exchange, research collaboration, academic transfer, clinical and community service, as well as the development of international programs, double-degree and sandwich programs at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Global
UGM is a member of the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN). Along with approximately 30 other universities in Southeast Asia, UGM participated in formulating guidelines for developing the HPU for all universities in ASEAN in 2015-2018. The result of this formulation is the Healthy University Framework in 2017. UGM and all members of AUN are to implement this framework, and in July 2019, UGM declared itself a healthy campus.
The Ministry of Health, through the Health Crisis Center, in collaboration with the Center for Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (PKMK FK-KMK UGM) helped establish the ASEAN Institute of Disaster Health Management (AIDHM). The meeting was a follow-up to the results of the 15th ASEAN Health Ministry Meeting (AHMM) in Nusa Dua, Bali which appointed Indonesia as the host for AIDHM.
National
SIMKES UGM has collaborated with various health agencies and across sectors in order to strengthen the health information system in Indonesia. Some of the activities that have been carried out include collaboration with the Zoonotic Substance Directorate for Prevention and Control of Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases (P2PTVZ) in recording, analyzing, and visualizing data related to zoonotic diseases. Other collaborations include partnering the DKI Jakarta Health Service on efforts to create a single health data dashboard using the DHIS2 platform.
UGM actively engages in collaborations with the industries across the nation in the research and development of medical devices.
Local
UGM’s very own academic hospital, RSA UGM, engages in collaboration with Bapelkes Yogyakarta to organize dialysis training for nurses at special hospitals and clinics with support from Bapelkes Diskes DIY. Bapelkes DIY is the Technical Implementation Unit of the DIY Health Service which has the task of planning, organizing and evaluating health training for health workers and the community. This training is carried out using blended learning and has been accredited by the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s BPPSDMK Center. Later, participants who have achieved the competencies as stated in the training curriculum will receive a certificate registered with BPPSDMK, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
Deliver outreach programmes and projects in the local community (which can include student volunteering programmes) to improve or promote health and well-being including hygiene, nutrition, family planning, sports, exercise, aging well, and other health and wellbeing related topics.
Students and staff at UGM actively participate in community service programs aimed at promoting health and well-being within local communities. These initiatives encompass a range of activities, including workshops and action programs.
UGM Outreach Programs

Launched in 2013, the Community and Family Health Care with Interprofessional Education (CFHC-IPE) program is a collaborative initiative led by students and lecturers from the Medical, Nursing, and Health Nutrition Education departments. This program operates in conjunction with partner families, and their health needs are addressed collaboratively with aid from community health centers, RT (neighborhood unit), RW (community unit), and village personnel.
“The Importance of Health Insurance” is a health outreach program to residents of Umbulsari B, Sumberharjo, Prambanan on the importance of health insurance and how to access applications launched by BPJS Health to facilitate online administration services. The material presented were regarding the importance of JKN, its benefits, how to register and pay, as well as how to access online JKN services.
The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM held a social service program of outreach, health checks, COVID-19 and MRSA screening for school children at the Sompok Sriharjo Village Multipurpose Hall, Imogiri Bantul. This event was attended by hundreds of residents of Imogiri, Bantul, consisting of 100 health examination participants from the general public, and 100 participants from Sompok Elementary School and Junior High School students.
The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM held counseling, health examinations, early detection of cervical cancer, and screening for sexually transmitted infections in the Parangkusumo area, Bantul. This event was attended by hundreds of workers around Parangkusumo who were subjected to health checks and screening.
The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is increasing the accessibility for students with special needs or disabilities in preventing dental and oral diseases through community service programs. This program is a concrete effort to improve dental and oral health from an early age for individuals with special needs. The main aim of this program is to create independence for SLB and parents of children with special needs using an innovative approach.
Student Community Service Outreach Program
UGM KKN-PPM Unit 2022-YO044 (Srandakan) Poncosari-A Subunit students carried out outreach activities regarding reproductive health among young men and women. The aim of holding this outreach is to increase the knowledge of teenagers in Padukuhan Polosiyo, especially in the 15 – 18 year age range regarding how to maintain sexual reproductive health in various aspects. UGM KKN-PPM students also distributed blood-boosting supplements and explained the role of these supplements for young women, namely to meet iron intake for a healthy reproductive system. The essence of this counseling is how to prevent stunting yourself by maintaining reproductive health.
Recognizing a lack of awareness and concern for waste management among the residents of Margaluyu Village, UGM KKN-PPM students have taken the initiative to design several programs aimed at creating a clean and healthy environment in Margaluyu Village. Awareness and concern for handling waste by the people of Margaluyu Village still seem to be very lacking. This is indicated by the fact that there is still a lot of rubbish found scattered around the Margaluyu Village area. Therefore, UGM KKN-PPM students designed several programs to create a clean and healthy Margaluyu Village, including the “Clean Village” activity, “Procurement of Trash Cans and Signboards of Environmental Cleanliness”, “Optimizing Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management to Improve Margaluyu Village Community Awareness about Good and Correct Waste Management”, “BENAR (Bersih dan Pintar): Education on Waste Sorting for Elementary School Children”, and “Extension on the Use of Inorganic Waste to Train Elementary School Children’s Skills”.
Share sports facilities with the local community, for instance with local schools or with the general public.
UGM offers a range of facilities accessible to both the campus and the local community, catering to diverse interests with options for both free and fee-based usage. Complimentary facilities include the sports center in Wisdom Park, a jogging track in the Biology Garden, a jogging track, and a cycling path in Embung PIAT UGM, as well as open space at Graha Sabha Pramana. For those in the local community seeking more specialized sports amenities, UGM Valley Sports Center provides facilities such as tennis courts, basketball courts, and a baseball field, with affordable fees applicable for their use.
Wisdom Park UGM is a green open space area made available to the public. A variety of amusements and recreation spots are present, including a greenhouse, chairs, a viewing deck, a forest walk area around the lake, and even more to enjoy.
The UGM Valley Sports Center is equipped with 5 badminton fields and 1 indoor tennis field that other than for exercise can be used for events by both UGM students and staff, as well as the public.
Families are welcome to bring their children to enjoy the swings at Embung PIAT UGM. This location also offers a delightful environment for jogging and cycling, providing a recreational space where families can engage in outdoor activities together.
Visitors can also enjoy a stroll and explore the rich collection of flora at the Biology Garden.

Provide students access to sexual and reproductive health-care services including information and education services.
UGM prioritizes the well-being of its students and staff by offering access to sexual and reproductive health care services through both the university primary care facilities and hospitals.
The Gadjah Mada Medical Center, serving as the primary care center for students and staff, provides a range of free-of-charge services, including information and education services. Additionally, UGM’s Academic Hospital, RSA UGM, offers affordable services of a similar nature.
This commitment extends to the faculty level, as exemplified by the Fisipol Crisis Center (FCC), which provides crucial services. One notable program at FCC involves granting free access for students and staff to Guidelines for Reporting, Handling, and Preventing Sexual Violence.
Education (Free)
UGM is actively promoting awareness of sexual and reproductive health by developing a free online course. This educational initiative is designed to provide participants with rich reading materials and video content.
The Health Promoting University unit maintains a dedicated channel focused on sexual and reproductive health. This channel serves as a platform where articles highlighting activities and initiatives related to reproductive health are regularly updated.
Service (Free)
Students have access to sexual and reproductive health care services through the Gadjah Mada clinic. This facility serves as a primary care center for students and provides a wide range of health services.
The Fisipol Crisis Center at UGM has developed a guidebook specifically aimed at addressing and preventing sexual violence on campus. This resource provides a comprehensive framework for reporting incidents, managing cases, and implementing preventive measures.
Provide students and staff with access to mental health support.
The university offers counseling services conducted by professionals and peer counselors, creating a supportive environment for individuals who may require mental health support. This holistic approach ensures that a range of resources and assistance is available to promote, prevent, and provide treatment support for mental health among university students and staff.
The Mental Health Team and Psychology Consultation Unit are dedicated units focus on providing counseling services to the university community, with services available at the Gadjah Mada Health Center. Information about these services is disseminated through various channels, including social media and websites. Furthermore, the Health Promoting University unit and the Faculty of Psychology have also prepared and trained a Peer Counselor community.
The Faculty of Psychology established Pojok Curhat as a dedicated platform for students to share their experiences and seek counseling appointments. This initiative facilitates open communication and encourages students to address their mental health concerns promptly by providing a readily accessible avenue for seeking professional support.
Have a ‘smoke-free’ policy.
Regulating smoking-free areas on campus creates a healthy environment and workplace. This initiative enhances the well-being of students and staff while promoting a productive atmosphere.
The guidelines for smoking-free areas are specified in Rector’s Regulation Number 29/P/SK/HT/2008, which was subsequently reviewed and endorsed by Circular Letter No. 7594 Year 2019, focusing on Smoke-Free Areas. The implementation of this policy is overseen by the Health Promoting University.
The university also provides support services for UGM residents who wish to quit smoking and has a student activist group promoting the Anti-Drug and Anti-Smoking Movement. Promotion efforts include distributing leaflets, displaying posters, selecting anti-drug ambassadors, as well as education and training for anti-drug cadres.
