Universities need to demonstrate actions towards responsible consumption and production.
Have a policy on ethical sourcing of food and supplies
UGM is committed to supporting an environmentally friendly campus agenda by encouraging students and employees to primarily choose products that are supplied by ethical food producers. It is stated in the circular letter number 1791/UN1.P/KJM/BU/2020 about Sustainable Lifestyle (page 3, point D) endorsed on the faculty level and implemented by the hospitality office in providing food on campus.
UGM ensures that the procurement of goods/services is carried out by taking into account sustainable aspects. This is clearly stated in Rector Regulation Number 8 Year 2020 about Procurement of Goods and Services Chapter VIII Article 76, which mentions the integration of economic, social, and environmental aspects. UGM is committed to supporting an environmentally friendly campus agenda by encouraging students and employees to primarily choose products that are supplied by ethical food producers. It is then renewed in Rector Regulation Number 12 Year 2022 about Procurement of Goods and Services Article 75 stating that procurement of goods/services is carried out taking into account sustainable aspects. One of the aspects is the environmental aspect, including reducing negative impacts on health, air quality, soil quality, water quality, and using natural resources in accordance with statutory provisions.
Have a policy, process or practice on waste disposal – Covering hazardous materials
UGM managed standard operating procedures for waste disposal – covering hazardous materials.
The standard operating procedures for waste disposal management number 05.03.01.
Special management of hazardous material is conducted through the guidance as described in the flow chart.
Policy and management of laboratory waste is regulated through SOP number PRM/6.03.1/LPPT 2018.
Have a policy on waste disposal – to measure the amount of waste sent to landfill and recycled
According to the standard operation procedure number 05.03.01 about waste disposal management, the university plan, evaluates and measures the amount of recycled waste as well as the ones that have to be landfilled (procedure number 3).

Have policies around use minimisation of plastic
UGM has commenced the commitment to reduce plastic waste on campus as stated in the University’s Strategic Plan 2017-2022 (pg. 20) which is further emphasized through advising the academic communities to commit to a sustainable campus.
The policy is then emphasized through Sustainable Lifestyle Guideline number 1791/UN1.P/KJM/BU/2020 about Sustainable Lifestyle (pg.2 point b).

Ensuring these policies extend to outsourced services and the supply chain
UGM’s commitment to being a sustainable-oriented university is proven by outsourcing services that are environmentally standardized.
In addition to that, UGM also directs the employment of outsourced services and supply chains that apply sustainable business. The policy is emphasized through Sustainable Lifestyle Guideline number 1791/UN1.P/KJM/BU/2020 about Sustainable Lifestyle.
Ensuring these policies extend to outsourced suppliers and the supply chain – (suppliers of equipment, stationary, building contracts)?
UGM’s commitment to being a sustainable-oriented university is proven by employing third parties to build buildings that were environmentally standardized as stated in the contract with the building contractors.
The contract to build environmentally friendly buildings includes the construction of the Law Learning Center. The building has then been successfully certified by the Green Building Council Indonesia (EDGE Certificate).
In addition to building contracts, UGM also directs the employment of outsourced services and supply chains that apply sustainable business. The policy is emphasized through Sustainable Lifestyle Guideline number 1791/UN1.P/KJM/BU/2020 about Sustainable Lifestyle.

12.4 Publication of a sustainability report
Regular publication of progress towards sustainability is an important action for all organisations, including universities. This metric asks if the institution published a university sustainability report between 2020 and 2022 and whether this was a standalone document or part of a larger annual report.

UGM published its annual sustainability report on the university website as well as on the platform provided by UGM national and international partners.
