Universitas Gadjah Mada and PT Kreasi Mandiri Wintor Indonesia (KMWI) agreed to collaborate in education, research, and community service. The agreement on the development of multipurpose transportation for rural areas was signed by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU, ASEAN Eng., and President Director of PT Kreasi Mandiri Wintor Indonesia, Reiza Treistanto, online, on Wednesday (19/8).
President Director of PT Kreasi Mandiri Wintor Indonesia, Reiza Treistanto, said that PT. KMWI is a subsidiary of PT Astra Autoparts. PT KMWI became the 55th subsidiary of 58 subsidiaries owned by PT Astra Autoparts.
“This company was established to follow up the rural transportation car development program. PT KMWI was established in 2012. The company was established to help people in rural areas through AMMDes, which stands for Rural Multipurpose Mechanical Equipment,” he said.
AMMDes, as the name implies, is multipurpose, and it has the tagline of one tool with multiple uses. It is called a variety of benefits. Apart from being a means of transportation, it is also a means of production.
“With utility because this tool is equipped with a power take-off that can be used for production. We hope to create a strong Penta helix collaboration and be able to contribute to the economic recovery, which to this day is still difficult due to the impact of Covid-19,” he explained.
Reiza said PT KMWI, as the party who attended from the industry, hoped that this product would be developed later and could be helpful in the broader community. Through downstream, this product is also expected to enter the Indonesian market.
In addition, he hopes that this MoU can be followed up with the realization of a cooperation agreement with a theme in accordance with the jointly developed innovation so that it is beneficial and versatile for the wider community.
“PT KMWI want to contribute to producing quality graduates, and we are willing if the company’s location is used as a place for student work practices or lecturer internships; thus, UGM can produce reliable graduates, bot knowledge and skill,” he said.
UGM Rector has the same hope that after the MoU between UGM and PT KMWI is implemented, it will be followed up with a cooperation agreement to realize urgent work that must be carried out immediately. With the support from the Directorate General of Higher Education, cooperation with PT KMWI can deliver innovations, especially for multipurpose rural transportation.
He assessed that the village is the most prominent part of Indonesia compared to the city. Because most of Indonesia’s population lives in rural areas, you must first grow the countryside when you want to prosper Indonesia.
“It is a good thing that our collaboration is aimed at transportation equipment in rural areas so that it can facilitate development processes and economic activities in rural areas. It is our common challenge, hopefully, it can be well realized,” he said.
Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng, Director General of Higher Education, who witnessed the MoU online, added that cooperation in the Penta helix or triple helix concept could help national economic recovery. Partnership with PT KMWI will undoubtedly be able to develop versatile mechanical devices.
“Together, it can be developed so that it can produce to help move the economy in rural areas, both for agriculture, plantations, aquaculture, fisheries,” he said.
According to Nizam, this kind of program will certainly be perfect if it is synergized with Campus Building Village programs, entrepreneurship programs, or incubation and innovation programs in universities. It is hoped that this kind of thing will create a good synergy between activities on campus.
“There is also a good synergy between campuses and industrial partners with the government and programs from various ministries and the community with the estuary of increasing the movement and economic progress of the wider community so that the campus as a spring can be realized,” he added.
