Five students of the KKN PPM UGM medical cluster unit JT-261, in Musuk District, Boyolali Regency conducted education session on the Eradication of Mosquito Nests (PSN) at RT 03 Sruni Village. This activity was carried out as an effort to combat the occurrence of dengue fever.
The location for the session was chosen based on the presence of dengue fever case reports in the neighbourhood. The implementation of this program itself was carried out for several days. On January 15th 2020, students together with the Coordinator for Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) from the Musuk Community Health Center first conducted a survey of the area surrounding the houses of dengue fever patients.
“The result of the survey showed that 9 out of 10 houses we visited had water reservoirs that contained mosquito larvae,” said Wahyu, the P2P Coordinator of Musuk Community Health Center who was also present in the survey activity.
After conducting the survey, the next day students together with Sanitarians and Sruni Village Midwives from Musuk Community Health Center gave a session about Eradication of Mosquito Nests in the RT. In this session, the information presented includes the 3M-Plus movement, larva monitoring or jumantik, and knowledge of dengue fever.
“We urge people to routinely drain and close water reservoirs, and prevent stagnant water around the house. For water reservoirs that are quite large, residents are encouraged to provide fish that eat mosquito larvae, “explained Wahyu.
Students also provided an education session to the PKK Association of Sruni Village at Sruni Village Hall on January 30th, 2020 and distributed stickers containing posters of 3M-Plus movement information and monitoring tables for mosquito larvae.
“People can stick the sticker in front of the house. Each house is expected to have one family member as a larva observer or jumantik who is in charge of monitoring the presence or absence of mosquito larvae inside and outside the house, then evaluating and following up on monitoring results,” said Dirga Nugraha as the Medical Cluster Student Coordinator.
Education about PSN, he said, is important to do considering that currently it has entered the rainy season so that puddles become likely around the house, and can become a nest for mosquitoes. In addition, dengue fever cases have also appeared so it is hoped that later dengue cases can be handled and the number of incidents does not increase.
