The “Green School” Community Empowerment Program is implemented by PSEK UGM in three remote villages that do not yet have access to electricity in Jambi and West Sumatra. The three villages are Sungai Rambut Village, Rawasari Village, and Jorongmarks Bukik Bulek. This program is an inseparable part of KEMALA’s (Mandiri Sustainable Energy Consortium) major activities with a large umbrella Project for “Improving Poor Household Income through Renewable Energy Supported Green Business Practices” which was carried out in the period July 2016-Feb 2018. Center for Community Economic Studies UGM together with three other KEMALA member institutions (Lakpesdam PBNU, UGM Center for Energy Studies and CCES) are the initiators of the Green School program idea. The KEMALA project funded by MCA-Indonesia has been running for about 20 months, with the project focused on three things, namely: the installation of PLTS (Solar Power Plants), the application of Green Schools, and the assistance of MSMEs based on renewable energy. In addition to carrying out knowledge transfer activities, the project also gave productive assets to the village to be managed by the local village economic enterprise.
