The Faculty of Biology UGM continues to make innovation and conduct research in developing superior fruits.
Dean of the Faculty of Biology UGM, Prof. Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M. Agr., Sc., said that his party is currently conducting research to develop techniques to optimize fruit harvest without having to follow the harvesting season.
Dean of Faculty of Biology UGM, Prof. Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr., Sc., said he is currently doing research on developing techniques to optimize fruit harvests without taking seasonal conditions into account.
“We are doing research for harvesting the fruit beyond its harvesting season,” he said after the 64th anniversary celebration of the Faculty recently.
Budi said that this is necessary because Indonesia is a mega-biodiversity country that has a rich variety of tropical fruits. However, most of these fruits only grow in certain seasons. Therefore, innovation and technology development is necessary for plants to be harvested outside their harvesting seasons.
Currently, Faculty of Biology UGM has begun research on tropical fruits, such as durian, longan, stinky bean, jengkol, and also melon in Gunungkidul.
Budi said that UGM also collaborates with a number of partners to conduct research on herbal medicines, such as ‘red fruit’, orange, and tea.
