Tuna Fisheries Management

Tuna is a big pelagic resource and its potential in Indonesian waters is quite high. This fish is a resource that has high competitiveness and broad market share. Tuna from various types are exported to Japan, America, Europe, Australia and the Asian region. Tuna fish business becomes excellent because of the awareness of the world community on the need for animal protein, high demand, relatively high prices, sources of employment, sources of regional income, sources of foreign exchange, have high social value, and as a unifier of a nation because it is capable of migrating long-distance (long-distance migratory) so that it is able to cross the country. The nature of the migratory tuna is what really needs attention in managing it.

Information on the tuna fisheries management model in Indonesia is currently very limited. This is due to the limited research and community service related to tuna fisheries. Therefore, a deeper study is needed, related to tuna management institutions in Indonesia, government readiness, academic studies (social, economic, biology, population dynamics, alleged stocks, life cycle, and various matters related to tuna utilization).

Based on research that has been done by the author and several other researchers, then we try to collect in this mini-book. This book is about the tuna management model in Indonesia in general and WPPRI 713 in particular. Its contents are the results of research and implementation of research results combined with research from the Makassar Strait, the Flores Sea, and the Gulf of Bone, supported by a number of external research results that are related to the contents of this book.
