A total of 22 countries participated in the marine summer school organized by the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
Activities that take place from 1 to 8 August in training for S2 and S3 students, as well as young researchers. The aim is to develop a generation of marine interdisciplinary researchers.
The Chairman of the UGM Fisheries Department, Dr. Murwantoko M.Si said, in this activity participants gained practical skills in science communication and integrating science-policy-society. As such, they can more effectively influence the decision-making process relating to the marine environment.
The implementation of ClimEco6 is due to the effect of the projected changes that are increasing. It requires a discussion of governance that involves social and ecological dimensions together, including in the field of fisheries and marine affairs. For this to succeed, the management of fisheries and marine resources must be supported by interdisciplinary science studies that integrate social and natural sciences, as well as decision-makers.
This activity is the result of a collaboration between the UGM Department of Fisheries and the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research, North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES), Maritime Research Institute (IMR) and the Estuarine and Coastal Research State Key Laboratory (SKLEC). In addition, the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology (KIOST), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
