The UGM electric car team has successfully developed an electric car with a capacity of two passengers and can travel 60 km once charging with a power of 10KWatt. Together with other electric vehicles, the electric car was paraded along the streets of Yogyakarta City, as a series of events of the 72nd Technical Higher Education Day.
Ade Pratama, a team of electric car technicians at the UGM Faculty of Engineering said the electric car was a continuation of the national electric car research program in 2014. At that time UGM was one of five universities in Indonesia that developed electric car technology.
After running for one year, the team finished until six months ago the process of producing electric cars began again. Although some components are still purchased from abroad, his team managed to develop a battery management system for this car.
What is special about this car is the new battery management system. He will read the battery, if it is not feasible, the car will be ordered to stop, because later it will require drivers and other components.
He also hopes that Indonesia can help electric car technology. He compared with countries that have been competing to produce electric cars. Even car manufacturers now include electric car products to be sold freely on the market.
“We know that the world is currently heading for electric cars. I hope that in 10 or 15 years Indonesia will already be able to master this technology and be able to commercialize electric cars for general use.”
