Water Conservation Program Implementation

Water conservation programs in Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) include water tank, ground water tank, rain harvesting system, injected rain harvesting system, bio-pores and stormwater retention. In addition, UGM also provides a drinking water supply system and water treatment from the source to the water tank.

  1. Water tank in: (a) Library of UGM; (b) Faculty of Psychology; (c) University’s Mosque; (d) Vocational school. All water tanks in UGM are supplied from UGM’s Lake (Figure 6a and 6b) which has been treated (Figure 9). The map of clean water distribution can be seen in Figure 7.
  2. Ground Water Tank in: (a) Faculty of Biology; (b) UGM’s main office; (c) Faculty of Psychology ( > 61 units); (d)Faculty of Cultural Science ( > 50 units); (e) Faculty of Agricultural Technology; (f) Library of UGM; (g) Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing; (h) Faculty of Dentistry; (i) PSLH.
  3. Rain Water Harvesting in: (a) Faculty of Biology; (b) Library of UGM; (c) UGM Residence; (d) UGM Residence.
  4. Injected Rain Water Harvesting in: (a) UGM Residence (2 units); (b) Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering (2 units); (c) Laboratory of Environmental Engineering (3 units).
  5. Bio-pores: in 2019, through student community service program, UGM has installed 100 bio-pores at Wisdom Park UGM, 174 bio-pores at UGM residence, and 50 bio-pores at UGM Main Office area. In 2020, UGM added 50 bio-pores at Wisdom Park UGM, 100 bio-pores at UGM residence, and 50 bio-pores at UGM Main Office area
  6. (a) Stormwater retention in wisdom park UGM; (b) water reservoir in wisdom park UGM.
  7. Map of clean water distribution in UGM. The distributed water comes from stormwater retention and wells which have been treated.
  8. Drinking water supply system in UGM includes water fountains and water dispensers. Water fountain is available in 50 points and scattered across the area of Universitas Gadjah Mada. This facility is available for free, every academician and every person residing in the campus can use the water fountain for drinking water. The water produced by a water dispenser can be cold, warm or hot water. The presence of a water dispenser makes it easier for students to obtain cold until warm water in a healthy freeway.
  9. Water treatment is started from water pumping from the source to be filtered of silica and carbon and continued to ultraviolet process and ready in the water storage.
  10. Distribution of Toya Gama produced at the Gamaqua Center for the needs of solid water dispensers, water fountains, and water taps in UGM.
  11. Embung Wanagama as water conservation in Wanagama area.
